She was born in Amritsar and attended Presentation Convent in Delhi for her education. Mrs. Dhawan co-founded many companies, starting with 4-5 people and successfully growing them to multi-million dollar organisations, with a strong focus on bringing innovative technology to market. Poonam Dhawan has sat on the boards of several non-profits and community organisations.She was the past President of The Indus Entrepreneurs' Texas branch and led TiE's Global Initiative for Women's Professional Development. She has served on the boards of the India Community Center, the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation, and Saheli, an organisation dedicated to the well-being of women and children.Numerous national and regional newspapers, including the Austin American Statesman, Business Journal, Financial Times, Economic Times, Tribune, National Herald, and others, have written on her and quoted her.She is looking forward to returning to her roots in India and carrying on the legacy of her father-in-law, Mr. IM Dhawan, with Hilltop School, and is determined to making it a world-class educational institution.
